Two Spires Place At The KCAC Championships

MARSHALL, Mo. – The University of Saint Mary women's wrestling team finished fifth in the KCAC Women's Wrestling Championship on Saturday. Shyanne Griffiths placed second and Teya Villalpando placed fourth. The University of Jamestown (N.D.) women's wrestling team took first place.

At the 101-pound weight class, Griffiths took down Kylie Marlin from York College in round one, winning by Fall at the 5:05 mark in the match. She would then fall to Junnette Caldera from the University of Jamestown by Fall in the first place match.

At the 130-pound weight class, Villalpando had a bye in round one and then fell to Cara Romeike from the University of Jamestown, 10-0. In her second match, Villalpando rebounded by pinning Corinne Robertson at the 4:38 mark of the match. In the third place match, she fell to Jocelyn Murphy from Missouri Valley College by Fall 3:51 into the match. She would place fourth and was also the Champions of Character representative for the University of Saint Mary.

WHATS AHEAD FOR THE SPIRES
The Spires will head to McPherson, Kan. where they will compete in the Central Christian College Open, Saturday, March 2.
