Men Take Fifth, Women 10th At NAIA National Championships

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa. – Both University of Saint Mary cross country teams took home top 10 finishes at the 2020 NAIA National Championships Friday morning, as the men placed fifth and the women came in 10th – placing in the top 10 for the first time in program history. The men scored 197 points and the women added 309 points.

Three men's runners in Johnathan Bowen, Brendan Erwin and Tyler Soliz were named NAIA All-Americans.

WOMEN'S 5K
Alyssa Armendariz was the top female finisher for the Spires as she just missed All-American status – placing 43rd in 18:39.54. Natasha Ortiz would cross the finish line four spots after her in 18:42.13 and Maddy Walter-Sherretts came in 90th place in 19:06.72.

Reagan Hiebert (102), Riley Hiebert (150), Mallory Gallet (170), Emma Campbell (179) were next in line for the Spires, all finishing in under 20 minutes.

MEN'S 8K
Bowen placed 22nd in the men's race to lead the Spires on the men's side, in a time of 25:07.35. Erwin would also place in the top 30 at 29th place in 25:14.33, while Soliz took 40th and Eric Vazquez placed 41st.

Luke Skinner took 85th place in a time of 26:04.09 and Clayton Price took 122nd place finishing in 26:29.09.

Jared Stark (130) rounded out the Spires in the men's race at 26:34.10.
