Liberty, Mo.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Wrestling team competed in the York Duals Friday, going 1-2 on the day.
The first match of the day was against Missouri Valley College, where Teya Villalpando, Daisy Scholz, and Lessly Sandoval all cruised to easy victories over their opponents. It was not enough, as Missouri Valley ran away with a 26-20 overall victory.
The second match of the day came against Eastern Oregon University, where USM again fell 32-12. Alisha Van Scoy (123 class) and Villalpando (130 class) highlighted this match as they both won by decision. Sandoval closed it out with a win by forfeit, making the final 32-12.
The Spires found their footing in the third match of the day against Ottawa University, winning 41-4. Saint Mary started with three straight wins by forfeit. Then Araya Boday, Villalpando, and Van Scoy all won by fall over their opponents to extend the Spire lead. Saint Mary did not stop there as Avery Ackerman and Sandoval both pinned their opponents to make the final score 41-4.
