Poteau, Okla.- The University of Saint Mary Men's Wrestling team traveled to compete in the Viking Open on Saturday. The event was called right before the championship round began due to a lack of time left on the day.
The Spires had multiple wrestlers reach the championship rounds, including Hartwell Taylor(141), Ethan Woods(133B), Roman De La Cruz(133A), Josey Jernigan (157B), Braden Headington(165B), Ryker Blackburn(197A), and Conner Owens(197B). Qualifying for as many championship rounds as the Spires did, Saint Mary almost had the opportunity to win the tournament outright as a team but never got the chance,
Brody Gee also had a good showing, going 2-1 on the day and winning by fall and tech fall. In the 149 weight class, Austin Almaguer won his first match by tech fall 17-1 over his opponent, but fell in the following round.
