Spires Win Comfortably Over Friends

Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Men's Wrestling team hosted the Friends Falcon for a team dual on Thursday, resulting in a 37-9 win. The Spires are now 10-3 on the year in team duals. 

 

Saint Mary struck first as Brody Gee (125) and Freddy Barajas (133) beat their opponents by fall for an early 12-0 lead. Hartwell Taylor (141) continued the Spire's winning ways, winning his match by decisions 7-3. Saint Mary extended their lead even further with wins by technical fall from Austin Almaguer (149) and Joesy Jernegan (157) to make the score 25-0. 

 

Braden Headington (165) and Benjamin Vogt (174) made it seven consecutive wins for the Spires after winning their matches by decision as well. A loss in the 184 weight class gave Friends their first team point of the night to make the score 31-6 in favor of the Spires. The last win of the night came from Ryker Blackburn (197), who beat his opponent by fall just past the halfway mark of the first period.

The Spires will take on Oklahoma Wesleyan for a team dual at 6 p.m. on Thursday in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
