Leavenworth, Kan.- The University of Saint Mary Women's Wrestling team hosted the Friends Falcons for a team dual on Thursday, resulting in a 23-20 loss. The Spires now have a team dual record of 4-1.
Alexsys Jacquez (109) got Saint Mary going with a win by fall to give Saint Mary an early lead. An open 123 weight class for the Spires gave Friends a free five points, tying the dual up at 10. A loss in the 136 weight class gave the Falcons a narrow lead heading into the 143 match. Ariana Mercado (143) helped out USM by beating her opponent 12-8 by decision. Amelia Frounfelter (170) had a miraculous come-from-behind win, beating her opponent by fall to give Saint Mary a 20-19 lead heading into the final match. However, Friends continued with the 191 match, giving the Falcons a 23-20 win.
