Men's Wrestling Dominates Avila in 40-12 Home Victory

LEAVENWORTH, KAN. - The University of Saint Mary men's wrestling team delivered a commanding performance against Avila University in a dual meet at home, earning a decisive 40-12 victory. The Spires showcased their depth and talent across multiple weight classes.

Key Highlights:

  • Freddy Barajas (133 lbs) followed up with an impressive major decision, dominating Tyler Johnson with an 18-5 victory.
  • Jacob Navarro (141 lbs) continued the momentum, overpowering Ryan McNeel with a major decision win, 15-5.
  • The Spires' first pin of the night came at 149 lbs, where Josey Jernegan showcased his dominance, taking down Sullivan Ruiz in just 2:51.
  • At 157 lbs, Lleyton Hoover demonstrated his technical prowess with a 17-8 major decision over Terrell Carter-Williams.
  • Another forfeit win at 165 lbs by Micahel Ager added six points to the Spires' tally.
  • Luke Hancock (174 lbs) showcased his control on the mat with a commanding 15-4 major decision over Joe Juitt.
  • Ryker Blackburn (197 lbs) sealed the night with an electrifying pin over Blake Becker in just 1:12.

Despite losses at 184 lbs, where Tanner VanScoy was pinned by Kendric Gordon, and a forfeit at 285 lbs, the Spires maintained their dominance throughout the dual with their aggressive and calculated approach.

The Spires will continue their season on Saturday, December 7th against Doane.
