Women's Wrestling Displays Versatility at Doane Open

CRETE, Neb. - The University of Saint Mary women's wrestling team showcased a strong performance at the Doane Oppenheimer Open, held on the road this past weekend. While the event was not team-scored, several Spires stood out with individual highlights, demonstrating resilience and skill across the brackets.

Notable Performances:

  • Maci Pearson (131 lbs): Pearson displayed tenacity throughout the tournament, beginning with an impressive three consecutive wins in the championship bracket. She secured two victories by fall, including a dominant pin over Jacie Bedell (Iowa Western CC) in just 1:36, and an 11-4 decision over Amaria Ridgner (Indian Hills). Despite a hard-fought quarterfinal match loss, Pearson showcased her grit and potential.

  • Rachel Dismuke (124 lbs): Dismuke made waves with a technical fall victory over Lafediya Eldridge (Dickinson State) in 4:56 and another triumph via injury over Chanelle Alburg (Carl Albert). She continued her momentum in the consolation bracket with a decisive 10-0 technical fall against Julia Donnelly (Grand View) before finishing her day after a competitive run.

  • Eyvori Jacquez (103 lbs): Jacquez was a force on the mat, dominating early rounds with technical fall wins, including a 10-0 victory over Maliyah Lopez (Baker University) and a 13-2 win over Alsafa Alkhalil (Ottawa University). She also secured two rapid falls in the consolation rounds, pinning Angelique Cervantes (Menlo College) in just 11 seconds and Lillian Zapata (William Penn) in 27 seconds.

Other Highlights:

  • Alexsys Jacquez (110 lbs): Jacquez advanced to the semifinals with three technical fall wins, including a decisive 10-0 quarterfinal victory. She bounced back from a semifinal loss to claim third place with a commanding 10-0 win in the medal round.
  • Allison King (145 lbs): King recorded two wins in the consolation bracket, both by technical fall, and secured a dominant 18-8 win in her opening match.
  • Araya Boday (138 lbs): Boday impressed early with a quick injury victory and a technical fall but faced tough competition in the later rounds.

The Spires demonstrated their depth and potential, with several wrestlers earning critical experience against top-tier competition. They will continue competition next week at Avila.
