Wichita, Kan.—Spire men's wrestling competed in the Falcon Invite over the weekend in Hartman Arena to kick-off their 2025-2026 season in a highly competitive fashion with standout performances paving the way for their athletes.
Freshman
Graham Kilpper notably began his collegiate journey with exceptional victories in the amateur division at the 165-weight class. Kilpper's series of wins included a 15-9 decision over Pratt Community College's Blake Winsor, consecutive 3-0 victories against opponents from Murray State and Doane University, and an impressively swift 17-second pin against Midland's Duran, the fastest in the tournament.
Adding to USM's success, junior
Josey Jernegan landed himself in a 4th place finish in the 157-weight class, demonstrating skill and tenacity with a 10-1 fall over Missouri Baptist's Noah Richardson, a 13-3 major decision against Silveyra from Grand View, and a 6-2 win by decision over Texas Wesleyan. Moreover,
Gabe Chesbro in the 197-weight class, Devon Lolar in the 285-weight class, and
Jacob Navarro representing the 133-pound class all secured wins, contributing to the Spires' overall performance in Hartman.
Looking ahead, the Spires are set to tackle Graceland University in Saint Mary's home opener on Thursday, November 6
th at 4:00 p.m. at the Ryan Sports Center in Leavenworth, Kansas.
