Kansas City, Mo.—Women's wrestling was triumphant for the second time this week in a KCAC dual, beating the Avila University Eagles on Thursday, January 8
th in Mabee Fieldhouse in Kansas City, Missouri.
Destiny Jones, who remains ranked top 5 in the country, was yet another highlight for the Spires, earning a tech fall over Mendez of Avila. Fellow ranked USM teammate
Alexsys Jacquez (110lb. weight class) immediately followed suit overpowering Alexis Hatfield by way of fall in the first round.
It was one win after another for USM as two additional Spire wrestlers
Ka'aulani Hew-Len and
Madison Kalamau continued to rack in the points for USM earning a win by fall and decision over Ricks and Houston of AU, respectively.
Skylur Lewis (138lb. weight class) made her mark on the evening winning by tech fall (10-0) as well as
Allison King (145lb. weight class) who made light work of her night by pinning Riedinger approximately one minute and twenty seconds.
Kristal Zamora dropped her match in the 160lb. weight class over McNack of AU, finishing out the night for the Spires as the next matches in the 180lb. and 207lb. weight classes were open for Saint Mary, giving Avila the win by forfeit.
USM women will take a break this weekend, and be ready to get back to work at the York Open on Saturday, January 17
th in York, Nebraska.
