Hillsboro, Kan.— Spire women's tennis turned in a dominant performance on Saturday, March 21
st sweeping the Tabor College Bluejays 7-0. USM controlled play across the lineup, victorious in both doubles matches recorded and then heading on to swipe all five recorded singles matches.
The Spires started with the momentum right off the bat in doubles play, where they secured the first point. The pairing of
Mia Rojas and Finn delivered a strong performance on the top doubles court, defeating Branam and Holloway 6-1 while on the second doubles court, Standley and Guerrero mirrored that score line, beating Jimenez and Seachris 6-1 to send their team into singles play on top. A third doubles slot was listed without a recorded score in the box, but USM's two completed doubles wins rounded out the beginning of the afternoon.
Singles play saw the top five positions all finishing in straight sets. At the top of the order,
Mia Rojas opened the scoring by outlasting Tabor's Holloway 6-4 in the first set before pulling away 6-0 in the second to secure the first point.
Shannon Finn quickly followed at No. 2 singles, dropping just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win over Seachris.
The middle of the lineup continued the surge.
Monserrat Guerrero delivered a convincing 6-1, 6-1 result against Branam, extending the team lead to 3-0. In the fourth singles slot, Rowen Weimers was equally efficient, rolling past Jimenez 6-1, 6-0. At No. 5 singles,
Arsys Rojas matched that effort with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Duke, completing a sweep of the recorded singles contests. The sixth singles position showed no result in the official report, but the Spires had already clinched the match.
Individually, several Spires turned in standout dual-match efforts. Rojas finished the day perfect in both formats, combining her 6-4, 6-0 singles win with a 6-1 doubles victory alongside Finn. Finn also completed a two-win day with her decisive 6-0, 6-1 singles result. Guerrero joined them with a straight-sets singles win and a 6-1 doubles triumph with Standley, giving the Spires three athletes who contributed to multiple match points.
USM will keep it rolling this Monday at David Brewer Park in Leavenworth, Kansas. The Spires will host KCAC foe the Coyotes of Kansas Wesleyan with matches set to begin at noon.
