Gainesville, Fla.—Spire T&F is battling it out under the Florida rays at the NAIA Indoor T&F Championships with day two underway.
To kick off Thursday evening, the women's 4x400m Relay team consisting of
Deslyne Cooper,
Keiyah Cole,
Hope Crabtree, and
Haley Sampson absolutely smashed the previously held USM record by six seconds, finishing with a time of 3:50.41 and 11
th place overall.
To begin day two, freshman
Tyler Holmes would take 10
th overall in his first post-season appearance for the Spires. Tyler would have his farthest leap of the day at 7.18m to finish a highly impressive first year for the dual sport athlete.
Deslyne Cooper and
Haley Sampson would not move on the finals but posted two solid finishes in 17
th and 18
th place respectively in the women's 400m dash prelims with final times of 57.38 and 5.58.
Carly Holadia would place in the top 10 in the women's 1,000m run taking 10
th overall with a final time of 2:55.36. Teammate
Abigail White wouldn't be far behind finishing in 14
th place and a prelims time of 2:57.25.
On the men's side,
Austin Howell would earn a 12
th place finish in the men's 1,000 meter. Austin came in at a final time of 2:26.85, just missing finals qualifications but ending his year on a high note.
Wrapping up the USM competitors for Friday was the women's 200-meter dash. Familiar face
Deslyne Cooper would be the lone Spire in this event as she would battle for 27
th place overall with a speedy finish of 25.39 seconds.
