Winfield, Kan.— The Spire women opened with a clean doubles sweep and never let up Sunday afternoon, defeating Southwestern 7-0 at the T.H. Vaughan Tennis Complex in Winfield. Post-season is finally here and the USM women's team finished up a regular season stint to be proud of, finishing at 9-7 overall with a 7-5 KCAC final tally.
USM finished 3-0 in doubles, highlighted by a 6-0 win at No. 1 from
Mia Rojas and
Shannon Finn over Celmo and Elie. At No. 2 doubles,
Courtney Standley and
Arsys Rojas added a 6-1 victory against Strong and Patterson. The No. 3 doubles point also went to the Spires, with Rowen Weimers and
Monserrat Guerrero credited with the win in team scoring after the Moundbuilders forfeited the No. 3 doubles spot.
The Spires carried that momentum into singles and won every flight with ease.
Shannon Finn earned a straight-set victory at No. 1 singles, beating Elie 6-1, 6-0.
Monserrat Guerrero was dominant at No. 2, defeating Celmo 6-0, 6-0, while Rowen Weimers posted the same scoreline against Patterson at No. 3.
Courtney Standley matched that effort at No. 4 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Strong.
USM would also pick up points at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
Arsys Rojas and
Madyson Kline were both credited with wins in the team totals as SC did not have athletes to fill those slots. Bringing a final 7-0 advantage for the Spires.
Several Saint Mary players contributed in both phases on Sunday. Finn paired her No. 1 singles win with a doubles victory, while Guerrero, Weimers and Standley each added a singles win after helping secure doubles points. The result gave the Spires a complete performance from the start, with the early doubles success setting the tone for a one-sided afternoon in Winfield.

nd at 9:00 a.m. USM will come into the conference finals at the No. 6 seed to take on the No. 3 seeded McPherson College Bulldogs at the Dr. Emory Lindquist Tennis Center on the campus of the Bethany College Swedes in Lindsborg, Kansas.
