Softball Wins Both Games Against Graceland University

The Saint Mary softball team was victorious in both games last week as they swept a double header from Graceland University. The Lady Spires now have a 6-5 record on the season.


Victoria Toplikar earned the win on the mound for Saint Mary in game one as she pitched a complete game, giving up six earned runs. Toplikar excelled at the plate for Saint Mary as well, as she had three hits, one double and three RBI's. Mary Silva, Steeli Norton, Rebecca Eatough, and Jessica Saldana all had two hits as well. Both of Norton's hits went for doubles. The Lady Spires pounded out 13 hits and scored eight runs, needing every one of them to pull out an 8-7 victory over a scrappy Graceland team.

In game two Saint Mary faced a 3-0 deficit after two innings, but came roaring back with nine runs between the fifth and sixth inning. Silva, Norton, Toplikar, Eatough, Kayla Hackney, and Emilee Biondo each had two hits to pace a 14 hit attack for the Lady Spires en route to a 9-3 victory. Norton pitched for Saint Mary giving up only two runs in a complete game performance.
