Saint Mary Women Downed by Tabor

Saint Mary women's basketball fell just short in an upset attempt of Tabor who currently resides in a tie for first place in the KCAC. The Spires battled the Blue Jays but fell 58-51 after holding a one point lead at halftime. The loss drops the Spires' record to 3-9 in conference play. Saint Mary is 4-20 on the season.

Saint Mary played well the first half outscoring Tabor 27-26. The Spires trailed by eight points early on, but responded well and woud have taken a four point lead into halftime had it not been for a Saint Mary foul as Tabor attempted a half court desperation shot just before the end of the fiirst half. Tabor would sink all three free throws to cut the lead to one.

In the second half, no team had more than a five point lead until just under seven minutes left in the game. Tabor would briefly get their lead out to seven points, but Saint Mary would have the deficit trimmed to four holding the ball in their possession with a minute left to play. The Spires would be unable to convert on their shot attempt and Tabor would pad their lead for a 52-45 victory with some late free throws.

Shanice Palmer led the Spires with 15 points and seven rebounds. She also had four assists. Rachel Emde and Imani Dixon each finished with 10 points. Dixon also had six rebounds. Saint Mary shot 27% from three point range and 50% from the free throw line in the loss.

This week, Saint Mary has three games on the docket. The first comes on Monday night as the Spires take on Avila in a non-conference matchup at home starting at 7pm. Thursday, Saint Mary travels to take on Sterling at at 6pm. On Saturday, the Spires wrap up the week with a home game against Ottawa at 2pm.
