Saint Mary Women Edged at Oklahoma Wesleyan

Saint Mary women's basketball traveled to Bartlesville, OK to take on (RV) Oklahoma Wesleyan on Saturday. The Spires came away with an 82-78 loss despite a hard fought effort. Saint Mary is now 1-4 on the season and 1-1 in KCAC play.

The Spires got out to a 9-4 run to start the game and pushed their lead out to eight points before leading 21-16 to close the first quarter. The Eagles would erase the deficit in the second quarter as they outscored the Spires 23-18 in the period to leave the game tied at 39-39 at halftime.

Saint Mary would hold a two point lead at the end of the third quarter, but Oklahoma Wesleyan quickly tied the game up with a basket early in the fourth. A second chance bucket by Kiera Tate gave the Spires a 73-72 lead with 5:28 remaining in the game. The Eagles outscored the Spires 10-5 to close the game to give the Spires the 82-78 loss.

Four Spires scored in double digits. Candy De Los Reyes and Kelsey Switzer each had a team high 15 points. Imani White and Tate each had 13 points. White had a double-double as she pulled down a team high 11 rebounds.

The women's basketball team will be back in action on Tuesday night in the Ryan Sports Center when they host Bethel for another KCAC matchup. Bethel is 0-6 on the season.
