The Saint Mary women's basketball team scored a season high 101 points in a win over McPherson in the Ryan Sports Center on Tuesday night. The Spires are now 4-4 in KCAC play, putting them in a four way tie for fifth place in the conference standings.
Saint Mary was red hot from the floor in the win. The Spires shot 64% from the field and 48% from three point range. For the first time in Head Coach Bruce Erickson's tenure, Saint Mary had three players score 20 points or more in one game.
Candy De Los Reyes led the way with 29 points. Kelsey Switzer finished with 26. Switzer also had six assists. Imani White added 23 points to round out the 20 point scorers. Ashley Hinkle had the team high in assists with eight.
Strong defense led to many easy buckets for the Spires all night. The defense was led by White who forced six steals and blocked three shots. Cassidy Harbert and De Los Reyes each had four steals. Harbert had the team high in rebounds with five.
Saint Mary outscored McPherson 28-15 in the first quarter to kick start the game. The Spires would never trail and eventually led by as many as 32 points in the game before taking the 101-74 victory.
The women's basketball team will play an exhibition contest tonight at Missouri Western State at 7pm. The Spires will have nearly a month off before the resume KCAC play on January 5th in a game at Ottawa.
