The Saint Mary women's basketball team took a 70-60 loss at Sterling on Thursday night. The loss makes the Spires 2-2 in KCAC play and 2-7 overall. Sterling is now 6-2 overall and 2-2 in KCAC play.
The Spires were outscored in each quarter, but the game remained tight into the second half. Saint Mary trailed by just two points at the end of the first quarter and four points by the end of the first half. Sterling outscored the Spires 15-11 in the third quarter to expand their lead to eight and would eventually take the 10 point victory.
Ashley Hinkle and Candy De Los Reyes both scored in double figures. Hinkle finished with 13 points and De Los Reyes added 12. Imani White had nine points and seven rebounds while Kelsey Switzer scored seven points and pulled down six rebounds. The Spires shot just 37% from the field in the loss.
Saint Mary resumes play on Saturday when they host Tabor in the Ryan Sports Center for a 5pm game. The game will be the KCAC Game of the Week.
