Saint Mary women's basketball held off Oklahoma Wesleyan for a 64-62 win on Wednesday night. The Spires improved to 6-6 in KCAC play with the win and avenged a four point loss to the Eagles in Barltesville earlier this season.
Oklahoma Wesleyan would get out to a 4-3 lead early in the first quarter, but after a bucket by Candy De Los Reyes the Spires never trailed again in the game. Saint Mary led by just two points at halftme, but the Spires pushed out to an 11 point lead with just four minutes left in the game.
Oklahoma Wesleyan then staged an impressive comeback with a 14-3 run to have the game tied with 30 seconds left to play. After a Saint Mary timeout, Candy De Los Reyes gave the Spires the lead driving to the basket for a tough layup with nine seconds on the clock. The Eagles would call time out to set up a play, but their final shot would be no good giving Saint Mary the victory.
imani White led Saint Mary with 17 points and eight rebounds. Candy De Los Reyes finished with 15 points and six rebounds. Kelsey Switzer pulled down eight rebounds and scored five points. Gabby Hacker had six rebounds and four points. Ashley Hinkle added eight points.
Saint Mary will be back in action on Saturday at Bethel. Tip off is scheduled for 3pm in North Newton. The Spires topped Bethel 84-60 at home earlier this season.
