USM Men's Basketball Earns Road Win

The Saint Mary men's basketball team traveled to St. Louis, Mo. on Saturday to take on Harris-Stowe in a non-conference matchup. The Spires came away with an 88-82 victory to move their record to 2-3 on the season.

The game opened going back and forth leaving the teams tied at 14 each with 13:04 left in the first half. Payton Meek would sink a three point shot to give the Spires a three point lead, and Saint Mary would push out to six point leads four separate times before halftime. However, the halftime lead would be just one as Harris-Stowe closed the half on a 5-0 run.

In the second half, Saint Mary exploded for 50 points. The Spires never trailed in the half, and led by as many as 10 points at one time. It was the most points in any half for the Spires this season. Free throws locked down the game. Saint Mary shot 85% from the line in the win. Saint Mary got to the line for 34 shots while Harris-Stowe took just 18 free throws in the game.

Kenneth Banks was 12 for 13 from the free throw line and finished with a team high 22 points. He was five for eight from the field. Demetrius Cady and Teyvon Lundy each added 14 points. Lundy had a team high six assists. Lavar McCullough was one point shy of a double-double. McCullough led the defense wtih eight defensive rebounds and 10 total. McCullough and Lundy each had two steals. McCullough also blocked a shot.

The Spires will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Friends for the KCAC Opener in the Ryan Sports Center at 8pm. The Falcons are 2-3 on the season.
