The Saint Mary women's soccer team took a 2-0 loss in the opening round of the KCAC Tournament to Oklahoma Wesleyan. The Eagles are ranked #12 in the NAIA and finished regular season play in first place of the KCAC with a 11-0 record in conference play.
The Spires got behind early as Oklahoma Wesleyan netted their first goal in the eighth minute of the match. The Spires would lock down from there keeping the score at 1-0 until deep into the second half. Jessica Ramirez would make eight saves to keep the Spires in the match until late.
Saint Mary got two shots each from Erica Hornbuckle and Justine Brown. Each also put one shot on goal. Oklahoma Wesleyan would take 22 shots and put 10 on goal, yet the Spires still had a chance late in the game.
Oklahoma Wesleyan went up 2-0 with just over 10 minutes left in the match and that would be the final score. The Spires finish the 2017 season with a 7-8-4 overall record and an eighth place finish in the KCAC. It is their first tournament qualification since 2012 when the Spires finished in fourth place in the KCAC regular season.
