The Saint Mary women's basketball team earned a 64-61 win at Southwestern on Tuesday night to improve to 4-4 in KCAC play. The Spires are now 7-6 on the season.
Tiani White led the way with a season high 19 points for Saint Mary. White also had six rebounds and two assists in the win. Rachel Newquist added 11 points and a team high in rebounds with eight. Ashley Hinkle finished with 11 points as well.
Southwestern would hold a three point lead after the first quarter, and the Moundbuilders pushed out to a 13 point lead in the second quarter before settling for a 10 point lead at halftime.
The Spires trimmed the deficit to one by the 4:44 mark in the third quarter and trailed by just three points headed into the final quarter of play. At the 8:35 mark in the fourth, Candy De Los Reyes gave Saint Mary a one point lead with a bucket in the lane. The Spires would pull out to a four point lead and eventually earned the victory 64-61.
The women's basketball team will be back in action at Newman University on December 30 at 1pm.
