Spires Women's Soccer Edged at Friends

The Saint Mary women's soccer team dropped a tough match at Friends on Wednesday. It was the opening match of the KCAC slate for the Spires in 2017. Saint Mary would fall 1-0 to make their record 4-3-1 on the season.

One goal would be all the difference. The Spires would hang in the match despite being outshot 11-3 in the first half. Friends netted the game winning goal in the 33rd minute of the first half. Neither team would score again as Saint Mary cut Friends shot total to just five in the second half. The Spires did not find many shot opportunities taking just four shots in the match.

Amanda Martin and Sara Ruiz-Payan each put shots on goal for the Spires. Jessica Ramirez and Emilie Korenek split halves in goal. Ramirez made three saves and allowed one goal. Koronek had two saves.

The Spires look to get back on the winning track when they host Bethel on Saturday at 1pm in Charles J. Berkel Memorial Stadium. Bethel is 3-4 on the season.
