Saint Mary men's basketball earned an 89-77 win over McPherson on Wednesday night. The win makes the Spires 9-8 overall and 7-4 in KCAC play. They currently sit in a three way tie with Friends and Kansas Wesleyan for third place in the KCAC.
A strong first half carried the Spires. Saint Mary opened the game with a 10-2 run and never trailed again in the game. The Spires would push their lead out to 25 points by halftime. In the second half, Saint Mary briefly led by 30 points before McPherson started trimming the lead. The Bulldogs would get within nine at one point, but would draw no closer. The Spires would take the eight point victory.
Teyvon Lundy led all scorers in the game with 24 points. Reid Titus scored 19 points and Brett Marsh added 12 points. Kenneth Banks led the Spires in rebounds with seven. Banks also scored eight points. Edvonte Copeland had a team high six assists. The Spires shot 55% from the floor in the win.
Next up for Saint Mary is a rematch with Friends in Wichita on Saturday. The Falcons bested the Spires 73-70 in the Ryan Sports Center earlier this season. Friends is 7-4 in KCAC play and 9-9 overall this season.
