Saint Mary Women's Basketball Falls to McPherson

The Saint Mary women's basketball team took a 77-69 loss to McPherson at home on Wednesday night. The loss drops the Spires to 8-9 on the season and 5-6 in KCAC play. Saint Mary now stands alone in eighth place in the conference.

The Spires jumped out to a 12-6 lead but trailed 23-17 by the end of the first quarter. McPherson would push their lead to 10 points in the second quarter, but Saint Mary would come all the way back to tie the game at 42 with 49 seconds left in the first half. The Bulldogs scored the final four points of the half to take a 46-42 lead into halftime.

In the third quarter, McPherson pushed their lead back out to eight points before settling for their same four point advantage heading into the final quarter. The Spires would trail the rest of the way. After pulling within three points with 4:16 left in the game, Saint Mary would draw no closer as they eventually took the eight point loss.

Candy De Los Reyes led the Spires with 19 points. She also had four rebounds and three assists. Ashley Hinkle added 14 points and five assists. Morgan Bromell finished with 12 points. Janae Barnes scored nine points. Kelsey Switzer had a team high five rebounds.

Saint Mary is back in action on Saturday at Friends in Wichita. The game is scheduled for a 5pm start. Friends is in first place in the KCAC with a 9-2 record in KCAC play and an 11-7 record overall.
