The Saint Mary men's basketball team topped Sterling for the second time this season. This time the victory came at home as the Spires cruised to an 89-72 win. Saint Mary is now 8-5 in KCAC play and 10-9 on the season. The win propelled the Spires into second place in the KCAC Standings where they are tied with Tabor, Friends, York, and Oklahoma Wesleyan.
The first half was a battle for the Spires. Sterling would take the opening lead of the game, but the Spires bounced back to take a six point lead by the 12:51 mark. Sterling then fought back and took a two point lead with 7:45 remaining in the half. The Spires trailed by two points before closing the first half with a 14-3 run over the final four minutes and took a nine point lead into halftime.
In the second half, Saint Mary pushed their lead to 21 by the 14:36 mark. Sterling would get back within 11 at one point, but that would be as close as they got as Saint Mary claimed the 17 point victory.
The Spires shot 57% from three point range in the win. Demetrius Cady netted six of 10 shots from three and finished with a game high 23 points. Brett Marsh scored 16 points and Teyvon Lundy added 16. Kenneth Banks and Edvonte Copeland each had nine points. Banks also had a game high 10 rebounds. Copeland led the Spires in assists with six.
Saint Mary is back in action on Saturday with another KCAC home matchup with Ottawa. The Braves are 8-10 on the season and 7-6 in KCAC play. The Spires beat Ottawa in Ottawa earlier this season 92-86.
