The Saint Mary men's basketball team took their sixth KCAC loss of the season on Wednesday at Kansas Wesleyan. The Spires fell 80-64 dropping their KCAC record to 9-6 where they sit in a five way tie for third place in the conference standings. Saint Mary is now 11-10 on the season.

Kansas Wesleyan opened the game with an 11-3 run putting the Spires behind early. The Coyotes led by as many as nine before the Spires fought back to tie the game at 28 with 3:21 to go in the first half. Kansas Wesleyan ended the half on an 8-0 run to take an eight point lead into halftime. The Spires would be unable to gain ground in the second half. Kansas Wesleyan outscored Saint Mary 44-36 in the half leading to the 80-64 victory.

A cold shooting night from three point range and the free throw line plagued the Spires. Despite Demetrius Cady shooting 4/7 from three, the rest of the team combined to shoot 2/14 from deep. The Spires shot 10/19 at the free throw line for 53% which was their season low at the charity stripe this season.

Cady finished with a team high 18 points. Brett Marsh joined him as the only other double digit scorer with 15 points. Marsh also had six rebounds. Kenneth Banks led the Spires in rebounds with seven. Saint Mary had two assists and 13 turnovers in the loss. Teyvon Lundy finished with three steals.

Saint Mary looks to get back on track this Saturday at Oklahoma Wesleyan. The Spires topped the Eagles 89-88 in the Ryan Sports Center earlier this season. Oklahoma Weslyan is one of the five teams currently in second place in the KCAC with a 9-6 conference record. The Eagles are 16-7 overall.
