The Saint Mary women's basketball team won their fourth straight game on Saturday at Oklahoma Wesleyan. It was the second road victory of the week for the Spires. They are now 12-10 on the season and 9-7 in KCAC play. The win moved the Spires into a sixth place tie with Bethany and within two games of second place Sterling in the conference standings. Six games remain on the schedule.
Saint Mary opened the game with a 12-2 run and led by five points at the end of the first quarter. Oklahoma Wesleyan came all the way back to take their first lead of the game with 51 seconds left in the first half, but Tiani White's bucket in the closing seconds gave the Spires a one point lead at halftime. The Eagle took back the lead early in the third quarter and did not trail again until Kelsey Switzer beat the buzzer to again give the Spires a one point advantage headed into the final quarter of play. Saint Mary would push out to a five point lead in the fourth and hang on the for the four point victory.
Tiani White had a season high 19 points for Saint Mary in the win. She led all scorers in the game. Kiera Tate and Switzer each added nine. Rachel Newquist led the Spires in rebounds with seven. Candy De Los Reyes had a team high four assists. The Spires blocked five shots including three by Switzer.
The women's basketball team will be back in action on Wednesday at home against Tabor at 6pm. The Blue Jays are 13-9 on the season and 10-6 in KCAC play. Tabor bested Saint Mary 89-43 in Hillsboro earlier this season.
