Men's Soccer's Late Heroics Come Up Short to SC

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary men's soccer team put together some late heroics against Southwestern College Tuesday evening at Berkel Memorial Stadium, but came up short in double-overtime, 2-1 to the Moundbuilders.

Saint Mary is now 3-6-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the KCAC on the season.

GAME FLOW
There were not a lot of opportunities in the first half for either team. Saint Mary totaled five shots in the first half, while Southwestern had three.

The game would remain scoreless up until just under 10 minutes to play. Southwestern played a ball into the box, where Fabio Schneider gave the Moundbuilders a 1-0 lead. Then with just under three minutes left, the Spires attack drove up the field, where Rodney Smith dribbled past a defender and put the ball past the goalkeeper to tie the game at one.

The game would go into overtime where both teams would have opportunities to put the game away. In the end, Southwestern came out on top as they scored with just three minutes gone by in the second extra period.

  • Smith scored his team leading eighth goal of the season.
