Women's Soccer Shuts Out Southwestern

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – Paige Nagy scored an early goal for the University of Saint Mary women's soccer team and the Spires held on to defeat Southwestern College, 1-0 Tuesday evening at Berkel Memorial Stadium.

Saint Mary is 2-8 overall and 2-3 in KCAC play.

GAME FLOW
Saint Mary took five shots in the first 10 minutes of play against Southwestern, with one finding the net from Nagy. The Winsor, Calif. native scored in the seventh minute to give the Spires the early lead.

Southwestern would have their chances at a goal in the first half, but Emilie Korenek made three saves and the Spires back line held strong. Saint Mary would take a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Both teams tried to add a goal in the second half, but the game would stay at 1-0 throughout. The Moundbuilders were held in check in the final minutes as they tried to build a rally.
