Baseball Falls at Benedictine

The Saint Mary baseball team took a 9-3 loss at Benedictine on Wednesday. The loss drops the Spires to 4-4 on the season. Saint Mary begins KCAC play this weekend when they host Bethany.

Alfredo Silva took the mound to start for the Spires. Silva tossed two and a third innings while allowing four runs. Two Saint Mary errors, two walks, and a wild pitch allowed Benedictine to get the early lead. Daulton East tossed five innings of solid relief for Saint Mary. East allowed just three earned runs on eight hits. He struck out two and walked one. Easton Barnes tossed the final two outs for the Spires.

The Saint Mary offense was quiet as they managed just five hits. Saint Mary had several scoring opportunities though. Saint Mary had runners on second and third with no body out in the fifth but did not score. After Dylan Carrender doubled home Shun Tsunoda in the sixth, the Spires loaded the bases with one out and managed just one more run. The Spires would not score again the rest of the game as they fell 9-3.

The Spires will open up KCAC play on Saturday in their first home games of the year when they host Bethany at 1pm. The Swedes are 3-3 on the season. Saturday's games will be a double header with a single nine inning game to follow on Sunday. All games will be played at Saint Mary Field.
