Men's Basketball Slips at McPherson

The Saint Mary men's basketball team took a 103-89 loss at McPherson on Wednesday night. The loss moved the Spires out of second place in the KCAC and into a fourth place tie with York at 13-8 in conference play. Saint Mary is 15-12 on the season. One game remains in the regular season for the Spires before the KCAC Tournament.

McPherson was red hot in the first half as they shot 64% from the field, but Saint Mary found themselves trailing by just two points with 1:57 left to play in the half. McPherson would close the half on a 7-0 run however and lead by nine points at halftime. The Spires did trim the lead to just four points in the second half, but McPherson would not allow them to get any closer. It was the first time this season the Spires allowed 100 or more points.

Demetrius Cady led Saint Mary offensively with 24 points. Brett Marsh added 17 while Edvonte Copeland and Brice Plein each had 13 points. Teyvon Lundy had a team high six assists. Marsh tallied the team high in rebounds with seven. Cady and Copeland each had two steals as well. McPherson shot 58% from the field, 45% from three, and 92% from the free throw line in the win. The Spires shot 49% from the field, 41% from three, and 75% from the free throw line.

Saint Mary will close out regular season play when they host York on Saturday at 4pm. KCAC Tournament seeding will be on the line as the winner of the contest could finish as high as a second and the loser could finish as low as seventh in the conference standings. York is 16-12 on the season. The Panthers bested the Spires 83-66 at York earlier this season.
