Saint Mary women's basketball claimed their sixth consecutive win with a 63-57 victory at Bethel on Saturday. The Spires are now 14-10 on the season and 11-7 in KCAC play. They sit in a four way tie for third place in the KCAC Standings. Saint Mary is just one game back of second place Oklahoma Wesleyan.
The Spires got off to a rough start as they trailed 15-4 midway through the first quarter. Saint Mary would have the deficit trimmed to just five points by the end of the quarter though. Saint Mary took their first lead at the 5:34 mark of the second quarter on a bucket by Ashley Hinkle, and the Spires would lead by five points by halftime.
In the third quarter, Saint Mary pushed their lead to 12 points at one point but settled for a six point advantage headed into the fourth. Bethel would tie the game at 51 with 4:11 left to play, but Janae Barnes netted two free throws seconds later. The Spires would lead the rest of the way and brought home the 63-57 win.
Candy De Los Reyes led the Spires with 17 points. Tiani White added 12 points and four rebounds. Sienna Brown and Hinkle each finished with 10 points. Brown had a team high six rebounds and Hinkle had a team high four assists. White led the Spires in steals with three.
The women's basketball team will host Southwestern at 6pm on Wednesday in the Ryan Sports Center. The Moundbuilders are 6-12 in KCAC play and 7-19 on the season. Saint Mary topped Southwestern in Winfield earlier this season 64-61.
