Spires Men's Soccer Falls to Sterling

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary men's soccer team fell 1-0 at home to Sterling College Saturday afternoon at Berkel Memorial Stadium.

aint Mary is now 2-4-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the KCAC on the season.

GAME FLOW
Sterling got on the board in the 18th minute when Colton Oord found the back of the net to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead. The Spires took two shots in the first half, but would go into halftime trailing 1-0.

Eder Hernandez had an opportunity in the second half at a goal, but his shot sailed just wide for the Spires. 20 minutes later, Jay Willcutt had a shot on goal, but it was saved by Sterling's goalkeeper Zachary Gudakov.

The final 10 minutes were crunch time for Saint Mary and they nearly tied the game up at every chance they had. Multiple shots were sent into the box, but the Warriors' defense was able to turn the ball away. Tonatiuh Morales, Jesse Dominguez and Kobie Kensinger all took one shot each in the winding minutes.

Sterling however was able to come out with the win on the road.

KEY STATISTICS

  • Dominguez led the Spires with two total shots out of seven for the team.
  • Goalkeeper Blake Kuehl made four saves.
  • Sterling had 10 total shots in the game.
