LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary women's soccer prevailed at home against Sterling College, picking up a 2-1 win for their first victory of the season. The Spires took a 2-0 lead and never looked back.
Saint Mary is 1-6 overall and 1-1 in KCAC play.
GAME FLOW
Neither team could connect in the first half, but the second half was a different story. The Spires then got on the board as Justine Brown-DaCosta scored in the 50th minute – giving the Spires a 1-0 lead.
Seven minutes later, Molly Devine connected on her first goal of the season to give the Spires a 2-0 lead. With just over 20 minutes left in the match the Warriors were given a penalty kick opportunity, which they converted to cut the deficit to one.
Saint Mary would hold Sterling to just four total shots in the match as the Warriors were kept in check late. Saint Mary had a few opportunities down the stretch, but nonetheless the Spires came out with the 2-1 win.
