Saint Mary Volleyball Sweeps Stephens

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Saint Mary volleyball team had no trouble sweeping Stephens College Tuesday night by a score of 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-19).

The Spires are now 5-4 on the season.

GAME FLOW
After falling behind early in the first set, the Spires bounced back and tied the frame at eight points apiece. They then scored seven straight points – on their way to a 25-15 win. Saint Mary continued to roll and opened the second set with a 10-5 lead. The Spires finished the set on a 15-6 run – winning 25-11. The final four points from the Spires were kills from Aly Camacho, Delaney Deckard (2) and Cody Offerle.

Stephens battled in the third set, cutting the Spires lead to three points multiple times. However, the Spires closed the frame out after leading 22-18 – with kills from Cali Barger, Cali Odom and Deckard.

KEY STATISTICS

  • Offerle led the team with 11 kills and Camacho had eight.
  • Van Gieson had a team high 13 assists, while Bailey Wright chipped in 11.
  • Katy Koepke recorded a team high 19 digs.
  • Saint Mary added a .310 hitting percentage.

WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE SPIRES
The Spires are set to make a return trip to Nebraska where they will play two matches on Saturday. Saint Mary will face off against Dakota State University at 2 p.m. and College of Saint Mary at 4 p.m.
