Ottawa, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary women's basketball team slipped to Ottawa University Monday night in their first game of a three game road stretch, 71-55 inside Wilson Fieldhouse.
The Spires are now 4-11 overall and 3-9 KCAC.
GAME FLOW
In another low scoring first half, the Spires went into halftime with a two-point lead over the Braves, 25-23. Saint Mary had some help from the bench in the first half, as Jaleia Rice had two three pointers that allowed the Spires to have a two possession lead. Ottawa shot 18.52 percent from the field in the first half, but was able to stay in the game by getting to the free-throw line. The Braves shot an astounding 82.1 percent from the charity stripe on 23-of-28 attempts for the game. The Braves came out with some fire early in the third quarter as they went on an 11-3 run. The Spires would rally back and trailed by one point going into the fourth quarter, but hot shooting for the Braves was too much for the Spires as they were able to pull away.
KEY STATISTICS
The Saint Mary bench scored 21 points.
Two Spires led the way with 12 points in Rice and Tiani White. The 12 points for Rice were a career-high.
Paige Scheckel added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Spires went 12-for-13 from the free throw line.

The Spires continue their three game road stretch as they will travel to Newton, Kan. to take on Bethel College. Tip-off is this Thursday at 6 p.m.
