LEAVENWORTH, KAN. – The University of Saint Mary women's soccer team tie with York College in 2OT on Homecoming Saturday night at Berkel Memorial Stadium.
The Spires are now 3-3-2 on the season, and 1-1-2 KCAC.
Early in the game, Bailey Zinser dribbled down the field and took the first shot of the game that missed just high. Saint Mary's offense continued to attack York as Angela Fiorentino and Hannah Day each took a shot but did not score. The game was scoreless at the half.
At the 33:26 mark in the second half, Day had a break away down the field that looked like a promising chance to put the Spires on the board, but missed the goal just inches to the left. Neither team was able to score in regulation which forced overtime.
Both teams had opportunities to score, but both hung on defensively to force a tie as time expired in 2OT.
Day led the team with three shots. Anna Soetaert, Grace Sanford, Megan McMillen, Brittany Ortiz, Zinser, and Fiorentino each had one shot. Lauryn Airy finished the game with 10 saves.
Next up, the Spires hit the road as they travel to Winfield, Kan. on Oct. 9 to take on Southwestern College in another conference matchup. The game is set to start at 5:30 p.m.
