Football Slips To SC On Senior Day

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary football team fell 28-10 at home to Southwestern College in their final game of the season, at Berkel Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

The Spires end the year at 0-11 overall and 0-10 in the KCAC.

Before the game, 18 seniors were honored for their contributions to the football program, along with USM cheer and dance team members.

Saint Mary had a fast start in the first quarter as they took their first drive of the game down field for 62 yards, converting on a field goal from CJ Erwin. The Spires would later go up 10-0 with 4:27 left in the quarter, as Troy Temmink found Bryan Barnhart for a 19-yard score.

Southwestern struck with 1:01 left in the quarter after Keyshawn Wyatt started his huge day with a 52-yard touchdown run to cut the score to three points.

Saint Mary tried to continue their hot offense from the first quarter into the second, but the Moundbuilders held them in check. The Moundbuilders added another seven points in the second quarter to take a 14-10 lead at halftime. Saint Mary would be held to a three-and-out on their first drive of the third quarter. Southwestern would take their first possession and turn it into another seven points to take an 11-point lead.

The Moundbuilders defense kept the Spires in check as they would ride to a 28-10 win.

Temmink led the passing attack with 286 yards and a touchdown, while Matthew Graham had 146 yards on 27 carries. Barnhart had a career day for the receiving core as he had 124 yards and a touchdown, to go over 2,000 receiving yards for his career.
