Panthers Rally To Defeat Men's Basketball

YORK, Neb. – The University of Saint Mary men's basketball team came up short to York College on the road Wednesday night, as the Panthers rallied back to steal the win from the Spires, 72-60.

The Spires are now 4-2 overall and 1-2 in the KCAC.

Saint Mary jumped out to a 6-0 lead to start the contest. The lead continued to grow as they reached a double-digit lead after Jaylon Rucker hit a three-point basket with 8:10 left in the first half, giving the Spires a 21-11 lead. York would chip away at the lead, but the Spires weathered the comeback and led 38-29 at halftime.

York would slowly come within reach in the second half. The Panthers would trim the Spires' lead to two points at 51-49 with 9:00 minutes left in the game. York continued to persevere and eventually grabbed the lead at 52-51 after a pair of free throws and basket.

Saint Mary tried to connect on offense down the stretch, but York's lead grew late, as they pulled away at the end.

Raylon Howard led the team with 15 points and four rebounds.

The Spires will travel to Sterling College on Saturday for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
