Softball Slips At Evangel

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The University of Saint Mary softball team continued its long road trip Tuesday afternoon taking on Evangel at the Evangel Softball Complex. The Spires offense struggled some falling in the doubleheader, 11-0 and 2-0.

Saint Mary drops to 1-9 overall on the season.

GAME 1
The Spires had a tough matchup against the Crusaders and fell behind early. Evangel scored four runs in the first and second innings to take an 8-0 lead. Saint Mary tried to get its offense going, but Evangel's defense was able to stop any momentum the Spires tried to build.

Evangel added three more runs in the fourth inning to take an 11-0 lead and held the Spires scoreless in the fifth to end the game.

Katlyn Schiefen took the loss in the circle and Bridget Rippe earned the win for the Crusaders. Rippe held Saint Mary hitless and allowed just one walk.

GAME 2
University of Saint Mary's offense continued to struggle some in the second game of the day against the Crusaders. Evangel scored the first run in the first inning on a single from Allison Davis. Evangel would add a second run in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead.

The Spires would build a small rally of baserunners in the seventh inning, but Evangel escaped the jam and held on for the win.

Samantha Torres took the loss in the circle for the Spires, while Abby Emmitt earned the win for the Crusaders, allowing one hit. Mara Davis led the Spires' offense going 1-for-3.

UP NEXT
Saint Mary travels to Wichita, Kan. to play in the Friends University Tournament on Friday. The Spires will face No. 2 Science & Arts at 12 p.m., Doane University at 4 p.m. and Peru State at 6 p.m.
