Bartlesville, Okla. – The University of Saint Mary baseball team's late rally was not enough to upset (13) Oklahoma Wesleyan University Sunday afternoon, as the Eagles captured the weekend series sweep on their home field, 5-2.
The Spires are now 4-8 overall and 2-5 in the KCAC.
Saint Mary looked to avenge yesterday's losses and take down the 13th ranked team in the nation, but OKWU's hot bats denied the upset. The Eagles scored four unanswered runs until the bottom of the eighth inning.
David Ramirez got the Spires on the board with a shot to left field, bringing in Peyton Garvin. The Spires would then score another run after Troy Hughes singled to bring in Daunte Freeman. The Eagles responded with another run to make the score 5-2 and their defense denied the Spires of a comeback.
OKWU's Tyson Cronin was the winner on the mound for the Eagles. Matt Weis took the loss for the Spires.
Hughes went 3-for-4 at the plate and had one RBI.
