Spires Take Series Over Ottawa With Win Sunday

OTTAWA, KAN. - The University of Saint Mary baseball team won their weekend series 2-1 after winning game three Sunday afternoon at Ottawa. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, but was moved due to inclement weather . The Spires had a good day at the plate with 14 hits. The final score was 7-2.

The Spires are now 7-12 overall and 5-8 KCAC.

GAME FLOW
Saint Mary got down early after a walk and few hits put Ottawa up 1-0. It would take a few innings, but the Spires got hot in the fourth inning to take the lead.

Oscar Osorio singled to third and Gilbert Rondon followed with a double deep to center to give the Spires momentum. A sacrifice bunt by Alex Guevara-Moya advanced the runners into scoring position. Matt Ladd hit a shot to right to score two runners, giving Saint Mary the lead. There was then a wild pitch that allowed Guevara-Moya to score. Peyton Garvin kept the momentum going with a single to right field, bringing in another run to expand their lead 4-1.

The Spires would score three more runs and held on defensively to deny a comeback from the Braves.

Easton Barnes took the win on the mound for Saint Mary, and Briar Lauer took the loss on the mound for Ottawa.

As a team, the Spires finished the game with a .378 batting average. Garvin went 3-for-4 at the plate and had one RBI. Ladd led the team with two RBI's.

WHATS AHEAD FOR THE SPIRES
Saint Mary returns home for a non-conference game against (RV) Benedictine College this Wednesday. The game is set for 2:30 pm.
