Baseball Unable To Keep Up With Avila

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Saint Mary baseball team struggled to keep up with the Avila University Eagles Thursday afternoon, falling 9-1.

The Spires are now 11-24 overall and 8-20 in the KCAC.

Avila scored first as they took a 3-0 lead after two innings. Alexis Ramos would lead off the third inning for the Spires and smoke a double to left-center field. Later on with two outs, Matt Ladd roped a double to left-center field to score Ramos and cut the deficit to two.

The Eagles added another run in the third inning to take a 4-1 lead and would hold the Spires scoreless the rest of the way. Saint Mary had a couple chances in the sixth and eighth innings, but were unable to cash in. Avila added five more runs in the game to take the win from the Spires.

Ladd led the way with two hits for Saint Mary, while Easton Barnes took the loss on the mound.

Saint Mary concludes their series with Avila on Saturday in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
