LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary baseball team was swept by Tabor College Saturday afternoon, falling 6-4 and 8-1 on Senior Day.
The Spires finish the season at 11-29 overall and 8-25 in the KCAC.
In the first game, Tabor struck for four runs in the third inning and took a 4-0 lead before leading 5-1 after four innings. Will Gering scored the only run for the Spires on a double play ball hit by Alexis Ramos.
The Blue Jays extended their lead to 6-1 in the sixth inning before Saint Mary tried to start a rally. Daunte Freeman led off the eighth inning with a double and would score on a single from David Ramirez. Then in the ninth inning the Spires continued to put some pressure on Tabor, but would come across with just two runs in the frame. Ramirez hit a two-out single to score Matt Ladd and Freeman.
Ramirez went out with a bang leading the team with three hits and three RBI. Easton Barnes took the loss on the mound for Saint Mary.
In the second game, it was all Tabor as they exploded on offense. Saint Mary trailed 4-0 after five and a half innings before Clay Lambrecht doubled to score Ladd in the sixth.
Tabor extended their lead at 8-1 in the seventh and held on from there to secure the sweep.
Lambrecht had two hits on the day, while Sergio Valenzuela suffered the loss.
