LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary volleyball was prepared early as they cruised to a 3-0 ( 25-12, 25-13, 25-9) sweep over Avila University Tuesday night in a nonconference match, inside the Ryan Sports Center.
The Spires improved their record to 11-7 overall on the season.
Saint Mary was able to cruise in the first set early, jumping out to a 12-5 lead and never looked back. Anna Hester dropped two consecutive kills, followed by a 11-8 run to close out the set, capped off by a kill from Ashley Van Gieson, 25-13.
Avila kept things close for a little bit in the second set, but the Spires proved to be a force later on. Cody Offerle scored five of six straight points for Saint Mary on kills as the Spires led 22-11. Keishla Reyes ended the set with a service ace, which would continue into the third as the Spires won 25-12.
The third set proved to be too much for the Eagles as Saint Mary cruised to a 10-3 lead – continuing the momentum. Saint Mary held Avila to under 10 points and would ease past the Eagles, 25-9 to claim the match win.
Saint Mary will travel to Peru State Friday night with a first serve scheduled for 7 p.m.
