Women's Basketball Coasts To Win Over York

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – A hot shooting night for the University of Saint Mary women's basketball team helped the Spires to a huge 64-47 win and season sweep of York College Monday night inside the Ryan Sports Center.

The Spires are now 3-15 overall and 3-11 in the KCAC.

Saint Mary fell behind early, but would grab a 19-10 lead at the 1:11 mark of the first quarter after Rebecca Gilpin nailed a three-pointer. York trimmed the lead to single digits in the second quarter, but Gilpin and Macy Walker combined for five straight points at the end of the period to give the Spires a 30-17 halftime lead.

Saint Mary came out hot in the second half, like they have all year and increased their lead by even more. Danielle Cassady scored five consecutive points, while Dakota Corle later hit her second career three-point field goal to force a timeout by York. The Spires led 44-28 at that point and never looked back, holding a double-digit lead the rest of the game.

Cassady, Walker and Gilpin each hit double-figures on the night with Cassady leading the way with 21 points. Gilpin would add 18 points and Walker chipped in 12. Cassady also had a team high nine rebounds and five assists.
