Women's Basketball Picks Up Win Over McPherson

MCPHERSON, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary women's basketball team picked up a win against McPherson College on the road after a big second half. The final score was 73-69. Danielle Cassady and Macy Walker each had a double-double.

The Spires are now 4-18 overall and 4-14 KCAC.

McPherson scored the first points, but Dakota Corle tied things up after snagging and offensive rebound. Moments later, Cassady found Nese Selepeo for three to go up 5-4. Both teams would go back and forth throughout the first quarter, but the Bulldogs led 24-22 going into the second quarter. Walker sparked a 13-0 run for Saint Mary with back-to-back buckets. The Bulldogs were able to claw their way back and take a 46-45 lead after hitting a three-pointer to end the half.

The Spires picked it up in the second half as they outscored the Bulldogs 14-9 in the third and led 59-55 heading into the final quarter. McPherson made a little run to get within one, but Selepeo passed it into the paint to Katie Robinson for a bucket. She would also score on the Spires next possession off a turnover with an assist from Cassady. The Bulldogs shot in desperation, but free-throws from Cassady and Robinson in the remaining seconds of the game sealed the road win for the Spires.

Walker had her fifth double-double of the season as she led the team in scoring with 19 points and led the team with 13 rebounds. Selepeo finished with 16 points. Cassady had her second double-double of the season as she finished with 12 assists and 10 points. Robinson scored eight points and had eight rebounds.

The Spires return home this Saturday as they look to upset (RV)Bethany College inside Ryan Sports Center. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
