LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary women's wrestling team fell 26-21 to York College in a close one Saturday night inside Ryan Sports Center in their first home dual in program history.
The Spires are now 0-2 overall.
York picked up the first win at the 101-pound weight class with a forfeit. In the next match at the 109-pound weight class, Brianna Mancillaspicked up the first victory for the Spires after defeating Clair Payne with a 16-13 decision. York extended their lead after picking up two back-to-back wins from a forfeit and a pin.
The Spires began to make a comeback as Mattea Potter pinned Bailey Theel and then Alyssa Bettencourt and Charlis Vega won by forfeit. York picked up the next two matches and April Penn defeated Marissa Patterson with a 12-5 decision at the 191-pound weight class to end the dual. Saint Mary came up just short of the win.
