Women's Soccer Comes Up Short At SC

WINFIELD, Kan. – The University of Saint Mary women's soccer team came up short on the road to Southwestern College Saturday night, falling 2-0. Southwestern outshot the Spires 21-5 on the night.

The Spires are now 1-1 overall and 1-1 in the KCAC.

Saint Mary took three shots early in the game, with the first one coming from Macy Smith that sailed just wide of the net. Amanda Martin and Emily Wilson would take chances in a difference of two minutes in the first half at the 36th and 34th minute marks, but both missed.

Late in the first half, Southwestern would score the first goal of the game with just over four minutes until halftime. Hannah Day had an opportunity in the opening minutes of the second half to capitalize, but the Moundbuilders' goalkeeper Emily Sutton was able to make the save. Southwestern would add the eventual decisive goal with 4:58 left in the match to take the 2-0 win.

Wilson led the team with two total shots and Emilie Korenek added seven saves in goal.
